TEMPLE Cloud delivered a dominant all-round performance to secure a comprehensive victory over Taunton Deane in Saturday’s fixture.
Batting first, Temple Cloud posted a formidable total of 286 for 6. Opener Andrew Mortimer laid a solid foundation with a well-crafted 71, setting the tone early. The innings was anchored by Gary Filler, who remained unbeaten on a commanding 91 not out, steering his side to a match-winning total with controlled aggression and excellent shot selection.
In response, Taunton Deane struggled to gain any momentum and were dismissed for just 77 runs, unable to cope with Temple Cloud’s disciplined bowling attack. The pick of the bowlers were Gary Filler, showcasing his all-round prowess with 4 wickets for 46 runs, and George Fox, who tore through the batting order with an impressive 4 for 23.
It was a complete performance from Temple Cloud, with key contributions across both innings, earning them a convincing and well-deserved win.
While Temple Cloud Cricket Clubs 2nd XI continued their undefeated start to league cricket with a win over Kilmington & Stourton 1st XI.
The Wiltshire side won the toss and decided to have a bat. This decision looked questionable as they stumbled to 58-6 following the opening bowlers spell yielding two wickets for Chris Arbery and four wickets for Richard Appleyard.
Kilmington finally got a partnership to stick with opener Dredge ending up 85 not out and a handy 34 from number 9 Hamblin. This pair dragged Kilmington to 168-8 off their 40 overs.
Temple Cloud veteran Alex Comer looked fluent and timed the ball well on his way to 45 before playing around a straight one from Dredge. A couple of players came and went before Temple found themselves 98-4, as spectators wondered if a collapse was on the cards. Enter Liam Raisbeck and Nathan Brooks who put together an unbeaten partnership to see Temple over the line, ending on 36 not out each.
