Mercury 28 Arrows 48
Arrows played away at Bridgwater on 9th January facing Mercury. With the rain pouring down, Arrows were lucky enough to be given the option to play indoors. Mercury won the coin toss and took the first centre pass, Arrows started strong, immediately turning over the play and scoring the first goal. With many more interceptions, the first quarter ended 7–14 to Arrows.
During the second quarter, Arrows continued to work hard. Shannon in centre was making great interceptions and spaces to keep the ball moving down the court. Ellie in WA was also making great spaces and providing good support to the shooters on the D.
The third quarter saw Mercury make some changes and bring on some fresh legs. Arrows made no changes as they were playing strong. Kim in WD was vital to Arrows’ defence making many interceptions and providing support. Rebecca, GA and Pip, GS, worked well together in the D and provided excellent defence. Both shooters had an exceptional quarter and ensured Arrows greatly increased their score, ending the quarter 19–33.
For the final quarter, Arrows unfortunately had to lose Kim due to an injury, however we gained Cheryl in WD, who provided great support and strong passes in to the shooters. Ella (GK) and Harriet (GD) kept a strong defence blocking and intercepting Mercury’s shooters. This kept Arrows in the lead finishing the match with a win of 48–28.
Arrows would like to thank Mercury for a great match, Victoria for umpiring and Kim and Cheryl for playing.
