Westfield's first away day of the new season saw them travel to newly-promoted Banwell, runners-up in last year's Divison Two West.
Westfield made an impressive start to the game on a small pitch and began using the width well with A. Gumbleton and Beauchamp making good headway. Westfield grabbed the lead when Allen arrowed a left-footed free kick past the stranded Banwell keeper.
Banwell began to come in to the game a little but without really threatening as A. Colbourne and Gibbs marshalled the defence well. However, Banwell did equalise when a cross from the right-hand side was fumbled by Fenwick and the attacker was given the chance to prod home from close range to level the scores. J. Preston and Whitehead continued to battle hard and worked tirelessly in midfield and their competitiveness ensured Westfield maintained control of the game.
Banwell made an excellent start to the second half and created a number of chances to take the lead, but excellence from Fenwick ensured the scores remained tied.
As Westfield began to go up through the gears, they started switching the ball well, particularly for substitute, Haley, who started to cause problems for the home side. Haley nearly got on the scoresheet as a mazy run ended in his looping shot cannoning back off the crossbar.
Westfield did eventually grab the lead when an out-swinging corner from Gregory was met by the Captain, Colbourne, who powered his header home to give his side the lead.
Westfield reshuffled the pack and introduced J. Mitchell and R. Gumbleton for their first appearances of the season and within minutes the latter had put the game to bed.
Excellent work from Gregory saw his shot parried for R. Gumbleton to swivel and slot home from close range. Westfield looked solid and defended well in the closing stages of the game, ensuring their third victory from three.
