Midsomer Norton lost the toss and were inserted on a dry-looking wicket that proved to be somewhat slow and without a great deal of bounce. After the early dismissal of James Harvey, Alex Lear (31) and Martin Cox (30) began to lay a platform for the innings. Combining excellent running between the wickets and dispatching the bad balls, they took the score to 73 before both fell in quick succession.

The introduction of Bedminster's spinners began to slow the run rate slightly and when the fourth wicket fell at 95, Norton needed some rebuilding. As on several previous occasions, Nick Potter played a Captain's innings, combining with first, Pang (23) and then Clifton (27) to take Norton beyond 200, before he fell himself for a well-crafted 42. Sam Knapp, the pick of the home side's bowlers, returned for Bedminster to make sure that the tail didn't wag, running through the lower order to finish with 5–41 and leaving Norton all out for 214.

Norton began bowling with early strikes in mind, especially with the dangerous Cunliffe opening the innings. It was not to be the case, as the openers began to impose themselves on the visiting attack. Davis accounted for North to get Norton back in the game, but this brought Khanapurkar to the crease. His partnership with Cunliffe proved decisive as they put on 86 in twelve overs for the second wicket. Picking off the bad balls at will, Cunliffe accelerated to a near faultless fifty before being foxed by a Mitch Turner slower ball for 78. Two quick wickets, including a second for Turner, brought some hope for Norton but, following an unconvincing start, Carter made sure it was not to be, striking some lusty blows on his way to 41 before falling with victory in sight. Khanapurkar finished unbeaten on 55. Norton's innings fell at least thirty runs short of a total that would have given them a real chance.

This Saturday, the First XI return to action at Withies Lane where they take on Bishopston. The Second XI travel to Devizes and the Third XI welcome local rivals, Midsomer Norton Methodists, to Somervale.

The Sunday Firsts will play Bristol CC.
