The season started off with an Extraordinary General Meeting. This was well supported and was held to elect a new President for this year. Della Nation was voted in and accepted the position. Everyone wishes her good luck for the season.

As the green was not ready for bowling, Presidents’ Day was delayed until 4th May, report later in this write-up.

On 26th April, we all set out on our Annual Bowls Tour. Babbacombe was the destination, and our first bowls game was just over the road from our hotel. The weather stayed fine for us, and we won on three rinks and lost on three, winning by one shot overall, 105 to 104.

Our second game was at Bitton Park Bowls Club, in Teignmouth. The weather was very windy and bowling was very difficult. We finished after playing fifteen ends, winning on only one rink and losing overall, 52 shots to 101.

Our third game was at Newton Abbot Bowls Club, where again, we only had one winning rink and lost 129 to 69.We all agreed the final scores were immaterial, as we enjoyed ourselves in good company and made new friends.

Back home, and on the Wednesday the Ladies had a friendly game against Prattens’ Ladies and even though we lost on two rinks, we won overall, 48 to 42 shots. The same evening, the Men had a friendly game against Stothert and Pitt, winning on three rinks, losing on one and winning overall by 53 shots to 44.

The Ladies played again on the Thursday and we travelled to Keynsham for a Mendip League game. We came away winning on two rinks, losing on one and won overall, 61–31 shots, so gaining eight of the ten points on offer. A really good start to the league; let’s hope we can keep it up!

Presidents’ Day started with the ‘Spider’, which was won by Past President, Clive Norman. Three rinks of fours and three rinks of triples took to the green. Even though it was cold, we all managed the eighteen ends decided by the President.

The teams were divided into Presidents versus Captains. The Presidents won, 89 shots to 77. Della thanked Captain, Dave, for organising and running the day. The winning Presidents’ team was Sue Meadows, Steve Watson and Clive Norman. The Captains’ winning rink was Mike Satterthwaite, Sue Burke, and Bob Jordan. Della thanked Carole Cocks, Pat Goddard, Sue Yarlett and their helpers for a beautiful buffet which everyone enjoyed. Dave Cocks presented Della with a bouquet and wished her all the very best for the coming season.

Just a reminder, the Plant Sale and Coffee Morning is on Friday, 17th May from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Everyone welcome. Please try to come and support Sue in all her hard work organising this event. Draw prizes would be very welcome.
