Due to our regular pro being on holiday, I have been asked to pick up the pen. At last the weather barons relented, which allowed the final competitions to be played. It meant that competition Secretary, Dave Yarlett, could sleep soundly in his bed. Well done, Dave.

The outstanding results are: Ladies’ two wood, Carole Jenner-Tims beat Sheila Davis, 16-6. 101 competition, Dave Yarlett beat Carole Jenner-Tims, 101-99. Ladies championship: Carole Jenner Tims beat Sheila Davis, 21-10. Men’s championship, Dave Yarlett beat Clive Norman, 21-20.

Even though that means that the outdoor season has finished, some social events will be arranged during the winter months. The presentation of trophies event will be a slight twist on previous years. This will be held on Sunday, 2nd December, and instead of the usual dinner dance, a lunch will be held at the Centurion Hotel.

On Sunday, Captains’ Day was held, when acting club captain, Dave Cox, and ladies captain, Sue Burke, challenged the president’s team.

Even though the weather was much cooler than preceding days, it did stay dry.More than forty members enjoyed a very competitive game which resulted in a win for the president’s team. Dave then presented the winning rinks from both teams with a bottle of wine. He then welcomed our many new members to their first Captain’s Day and hoped that they enjoyed the experience. A huge thank you to Carole Cox and Sue Yarlett for providing a wonderful buffet tea. Also well done Julie for manning the bar, thank you. Dave presented lady helpers with a small appreciation gift.

The Gordon Willcox wine draw was then held and the winner was, once again, Steve Chant, a Frome Selwood bowler who has now won this draw on three occasions!

Finally, a rare whisky, donated by Rosemary and Keith Birchill, was auctioned, and Rod Bruce was the highest bid. Thank you Rod. Also a bottle of donated Schnapps was auctioned, and Martin Long was successful in his bid.
