Oops! It’s confession time, but more of that later. Saturday night saw members gather at Norwest for our Annual Presentation Evening, and a grand time was had by all.

The evening started off with everyone sitting down to dinner, courtesy of Mandy and her girls. They did a great job, especially considering the difficulties facing them with our outdated cooker, but nonetheless they provided us with a superb dinner, so thanks to Mandy and her team.

With everyone happily full and our glasses charged, it was then time for the presentation to begin. Brian was our Master of Ceremonies and Club President, Mike, presented the awards.

The recipient of the trophy for Club Member of the Year was not a bowling member, but the wife of a member, a devoted worker for Norwest. She stepped in several times during the season to provide food for the Men’s games, who otherwise, would have gone hungry, and she has done a brilliant job standing in for our cleaner, who is off sick.

So, well done to Lin Hill, our Club Member of 2018, it was certainly a well-deserved honour!

This was my first year in charge of sorting out the trophies, and this is where the confession comes in: I missed something!

I don’t know how it happened. I can only put it down to old age, but I completely missed the Ladies’ Novices competition, so apologies go to Cilla, the winner, and Jacky, who was runner-up. Sorry, girls. I’ll be sorting your trophies as a top priority. So it’s sack cloth and ashes for me, and if anyone would like to take over the job next season, don’t hesitate to come forward!

Now, for the thank-yous. These go to Mary, who organised our dinner; to Brian and Michael for doing the presentation; to Radstock Trophies (great job as always!); to Mark, our barman; to all who donated raffle prizes and sold tickets; and to all who helped in any way to make the evening the great success it undoubtedly was.

And finally, a special mention for Jack, our youngest member. Jack was chosen to represent Somerset County in the under-25s games at both Yeovil and Taunton Deane. Well done, Jack!
