I know I usually finish with the thank yous, but this time I think it’s only right I start with them. First, it’s a great big thank you to Mary: she did us proud in organising this year’s tour to Eastbourne. It all went without a hitch and she even got the weather right.

Second, we need to thank our driver, Andrew from Centurion Coaches. He was brilliant: nothing too much trouble, always ready to help and a real master when it came to negotiating Eastbourne’s incessant roadworks. Thanks Andrew, great job.

So, now for the tour: as you’ve gathered by now, we went to Eastbourne. We played three games while we were there, the first, on Tuesday, was against Peacehaven Bowls Club, and what a welcome they gave us. We’ve played against lots of clubs in the past, but I can’t remember ever having such an exceptionally warm welcome. Thanks Peacehaven for a great afternoon, the only downside being the result of the game: a loss for Norwest.

Our second game, on Wednesday, was at White Rock Bowls Club, Hastings, another nice day and another defeat but an enjoyable afternoon nonetheless. Here I have to mention my sister, Ann, who helped out by playing for us. She’s not a bowler, in fact she’d only had one roll-up before, but she certainly didn’t disgrace herself, even getting ‘chalk’ a couple of times. Thanks Ann, I’ve got a membership form ready, whenever you feel like signing.

We stayed in Eastbourne for our last game: once again it was a nice afternoon and once again we lost. It was still a friendly game, but with Eastbourne having a surfeit of County players, the outcome was inevitable.

Thanks to all who took part in the ‘Tour Quiz’, we had a record number of entries this year and our winners were Ron and Val, who carried off the trophy.

Lastly, thanks to Steve, our ‘checker in’ and ‘checker out’ of the coach. What would we have done without you, Steve.

Now, back to normal. On Saturday our lads had a friendly against Stothert & Pitt. Thank goodness we seem to have left our losing streak at Eastbourne, as the lads won by a handsome margin. Well done boys, keep up the good work. NH
