The objective at the start of the season for the Men at Purnell, was for the A team to stay in the Premier League, and the B and C teams to finish in the highest league position they had ever achieved, and all of these have been realised.

But because of the tremendous results in all the leagues this season, the targets had been revised to a higher level. They were all dashed last Saturday – the A team away to third place Clevedon, who were well in the game right up to the finish, but dropped six shots on the last end, losing on two rinks by two points, the other by four, 12-0 (so near but so far).

The B team were at home against Frome Park A, where they lost by just five shots, losing on two rinks, winning on one, points 2-10. The

C team played at home to Bloomfield B, the result was the same: 2-10.

All eyes will be on Purnell’s triple of Terry Priddle, John Mathews and Steve Amor, who will be playing in the National Finals at Leamington Spa on Thursday – the club wishes them the best of luck.

The club has a player in the semi-finals of the Somerset County Unbadged on Sunday in Terry Priddle. The club wishes him the best of luck, and we will miss him against Bristol in the league on the same day.

This week it’s the start of the eagerly-awaited Charity Floodlight Competition, played between many of the local clubs, and it is hoped a good amount of money will be raised for this year’s charities.

Can you believe it, the Indoor season is only a week away, but there is still time to register and get in a team. Please contact John Hansford on: 01761 415957. New bowlers are always welcome, and equipment and coaching are free of charge.
