It’s been a week of mixed fortunes at Purnell Bowls. The Men started their Somerset County League last Saturday very positively, with wins by all three teams. The A Team played Isle of Wedmore A in Premier One and registered an eleven-shot win, winning on two rinks out of three.
The B Team took on Knowle B in East One Division and had an outstanding win on all three rinks by 39 shots. Meanwhile, in East Two, the C Team had an excellent two-rink win over Bath C, again by eleven shots.
The men have also been involved with National Competitions, with the pairing of Jim Towells and Brian Wyatt, along with the pair of Don Dart and Hugh Lorimer, progressing to the second round of the Pairs competition. In the Men’s Fours, the quartet of Jim Towells, Chris Ponting, Don Dart and Hugh Lorimer registered a good win to progress to the next round.
Unfortunately, the Ladies have not fared so well. Whilst having a good win in the National Top Club against Alexandra Park, they have not had the same success in the leagues and are yet to register a win, but it is early days yet and they are confident their fortunes will change soon.
