Now into the second half of the outdoor season, there are some important games coming along in the Purnell Bowls Club diary.

The Men continue with the Somerset County League, and in their last game, the A team lost to a very strong Clevedon side by one shot, while the B team are struggling to find a win and lost their game against Keynsham.

After finishing top in their division of the Mid-Somerset League, the Men lost to City of Wells in the Semi-Final of the Divisional Playoffs.

However, in the County Wedmore Plate, the lads travelled to Weston-super-Mare on Sunday to play in the Semi-Final and beat Clarence Park in a very close encounter. After 21 ends, it was all square and it took two extra ends for Purnell to gain the victory, and so go onto the Final against Clevedon Prom in early September.

On Thursday, Jan Dart and Ailsa Midwinter travel to Leamington to compete in the National finals of the Ladies pairs, and we wish them good luck in their quest for the English Championship.

Meanwhile, the club are preparing for the start of the indoor season in mid-September, and invitations are given to anyone interested in looking for an active winter activity. Whether an outdoor bowler wishing to try indoor bowls or complete novices, all are welcome.
