It has been another great week at Purnell Bowls Club, with the highlight being the achievement of three of their bowlers.
Mike Pratt, John Mathews and Steve Amor, after winning 18–8 on Thursday evening at Backwell in the Quarter-Finals of the County Triples, took it a stage further on Sunday at Yeovil, reaching the Final after beating a very strong Bristol team 18–16 in the Semi-Final.
The last time a Purnell Men’s team got to a final of a County Competition was back in 2002, and again it was a triple and Mike Pratt was a member of the team. This time last year, Mike was quite ill, and there was a thought he may never play bowls again, so it was a great day for him personally.
The trio will now compete in the National Finals at Lemmington at the end of August against the rest of the country.
It was a friendly at Knowle for the lads on Saturday, which they won on all rinks. The Ladies had a mixed week, a win at Alexander Park 8–2, but then a loss to Bloomfield 2–8, both in the NSL League.
It’s a big night at the club this Friday when Brad Stevens will be entertaining the audience and I’m sure there will be a few drinks celebrating the club’s Triples excellent win. Well done, lads!
