What a dismal start to the New Year it has been so far! No crisp, white, sparkling snow, no picturesque Christmas card scenery and not a snowman in sight. It’s just been cold, wet and windy.

By the time you read this, the decorations will be down, the leftovers and chocolates eaten up, and the Christmas cheer will be well and truly past with boredom setting in. So, what can we do to cheer ourselves up? Well, we can all dream of the wonderful hot summer to come, while poring over the holiday brochures, but that isn’t sorting out the here and now.

How about this for a suggestion: what about popping along to the club on Friday evening to catch up with your fellow bowlers and friends, enjoy a couple of drinks and a few laughs. As I’m sure most Norwesters know, Friday is Skittles evening at Norwest.

Keith and Dennis run our Fish and Chip Skittle League during the ‘off’ season, sorting out the games, keeping score and then organising the supper at the end of the season: and a brilliant job they do. But, Friday evening is not just for the skittlers, it’s a great opportunity for a social get together, a time to come along and reminisce over last season’s bowls, and all those ‘unlucky’ shots – and to turn your thoughts to the brilliant season you’re going to have in the long hot summer to come.

So come on, pop along on Friday evening, and meet up with your pals and shed all those winter blues.
