Every other year, Purnell Bowls Club Chairman, Don Dart, organises a trip abroad to play a series of bowls matches against the locals and also to have a great early holiday in the sun.

This year, the trip was to Benidorm, with forty members and guests being away over the past two weeks and a great time had by all. Back in cold, but fine, Britain, the men have got off to a great start, with three friendlies and managed to record a win in all of them. First against Wells at home, then travelling to Stotherts mid-week and ending last weekend beating the mighty Bath by a cool 28 shots overall.

The start of the Friday club nights are beginning on Friday, 13th May with an added extra, this year there will be a bowls drive at 6.30 p.m., before the entertainment later in the evening. To kick things off, there is a Welcome Back Party this Friday, 29th April.

The National Competitions come thick and fast, as the men kick off with the National Two Rink Fours B team travelling to Willmott Park, Bristol, on Saturday, 7th May. On Sunday, 15th May, there is a short distance to travel for the Top Club Competition at Prattens, where a tough game is expected, then the A Two Rink Fours Team have a home draw against St Andrews, Weston-super-Mare, on Sunday, 22nd April.

The club is still looking for new members, just turn up any night; there is no membership to pay for the first year. For details, contact: 01761 471019.
