In its eighth year, Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club’s Open Doubles Tournament saw players from Wales joining others from local clubs to compete for this prestigious trophy.

As usual, the standard of play was very high, most games were won by 1 or 2 hoops, with many 7 – 6 results.

The clear winners were Linda Shaw and Dave Kibble, who retained the title - their third win in the eight years of the Tournament. The trophy was presented by CPCC’c Chair, Fran Ralli and then; tea and cakes.

Mo Boys, the tournament organiser, assured everyone that this trophy will welcome everyone back in 2024, including new faces from the wider croquet world.

Final’s Day on 30th September: - During the year, club members took part in a series of tournaments with categories for all players from beginner to expert, culminating in a fantastic Finals Day when spectators watched a series of hard fought games, with hoops scored or opponent balls hit away from a long distance.

At the end, CPCC Chair, Fran Ralli, presented the winners of the Doubles trophies: - Mo Boys and Tony Brooks (GC Level play), Colin Britt and Simon Dunk (GC Handicap) and the winners of the Single Play trophies: - David Milford (AC Handicap), Julie Lewis (High Handicap), Simon Dunk (AC Short Croquet), Phil Hendy (GC Handicap) and Colin Britt (Level singles).

But that was not the end of the day, for, before the end, our noses picked up the enticing scent of a BBQ. Everyone then enjoyed the BBQ with numerous salads and other tasty treats.

The club plays croquet throughout the year – yes, even when it’s cold – so, whatever the time, think Croquet - think friends, fun, sport, strategy, skill.
