Mixed fortunes over recent weekends involving boxers from Norton Radstock ABC.

The first outing this season for Jayden Walker was down in Weymouth at the Pavillion. Up against Tommy White of Poole ABC, we knew we were up against it once we met Tommy at the weigh-in.

Take a look at his opponent in the photograph. No the lad is not stood on a box - that’s all 6 foot 8 of him! Credit to Jay, he stuck to the job as best possible but just couldn’t get inside as often as he needed to and he eventually lost on points.

“A big well done to Tommy and an even bigger well done to Jay for going up against him. We did laugh about it afterwards at the thought of us having a pint ten years from now remembering the night we went to Weymouth”, explained head coach Sean.

As recent as last Saturday, the club travelled to Exmouth with thirteen year old Ruslans Krumins looking for his first win in two bouts. Matched against Jowan Hawthorn of St Pirans ABC, Ruslans put on a masterclass of controlled aggression going forward and slick counterpunching going backwards.

Following the match, coach said: “After a couple of setbacks in his previous bouts, I was super proud to see Ruslans boxing skills be finally awarded the right result this time in his favour. This kid has so many good boxing skills he’s a pleasure to train and now that he’s got his first win I think you’ll be hearing a lot about this kid”.
