AT Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club, both club matches and tournaments got going early in the season with a busy calendar of home and away events scheduled for April and into May.

On Saturday 12th April a team from CPCC competed in Division 3 of the South West Federation Spring Short Croquet tournament which was hosted by Nailsea and District Croquet Club.

Five teams travelled to Nailsea to take part. They were Bristol Boys, Bath Buns, Budleigh Salterton Roquets, Taunton Deane Terriers and CPCC ‘A’. The CPCC team consisted of four short croquet players: Mark Godfrey-James, Si Dunk, Ann Munton and Simon Munton.

Short Croquet is a version of Association Croquet, intended for play on smaller lawns.

The tournament started with a ‘round robin’ session but because there was an uneven number of competing teams it took five rounds of play to achieve the intended aim of every club playing each other.

CPCC played in the first four rounds and in each round won three out of their four games. This was a high success rate, especially bearing in mind the strengths of the other clubs.. By the end of the fourth round, C&P had won 12 out of the possible 16 games and none of the other competing Clubs would have been able to match that total during the final round of play.

The CPCC team were therefore able to enjoy being spectators for the final round of play before being presented with the winner’s trophy.

At the individual level Si Dunk and Ann Munton both won all four of their games and Si Dunk improved his Short Croquet handicap.
