Midsomer Norton's Second XI ended their campaign in the Wiltshire Division of the WEPL Second XI competition with a resounding 213–run victory over Nationwide House, from Swindon.
With Norton winning the toss, the home side amassed a total of 316–2 in just 45 overs. The standout performance came from club legend, Chris Tabb, who scored an incredible 201 not out.
This 153-ball innings included 26 fours and four sixes. Toby Hobbs (43) shared an opening stand of 181 with Chris and Nigel Tabb (30) then joined his brother at the wicket and they shared a stand of 133 runs. Chris, in addition to his great contributions at MNCC, has played for Gloucestershire Over-Fifties and the MCC. This was his first
double century.
The target of 317 proved too daunting for the visitors and their innings lasted just twenty overs. The wickets were shared among the Norton bowlers, Niel Brooks taking 2–20, Roger Perkins 2–22, Mike Biggs 3–28 and Dan Cox 1–11.
The Second XI secured a mid-table finish in the league, but there is no doubt that the highlight of the campaign was saved for the last day of the season with Chris Tabb's double century sure to live long in the memory.
