WELTON Rovers went down 3-2 at home to Cadbury Heath in a nail-biting first division match in the Jewson Western League in their latest game, writes Bob Allard.

Welton’s early pressure almost produced a breakthrough when a through ball found Courtney Charles, who headed on to Matt Morris whose curling effort crashed against the crossbar.

Welton’s bright start was rewarded in the 11th minute; neat link‑up play between Charles and Aaron Seviour saw the ball break to Will Ford, who drilled a low shot past Jack Smith.

The advantage, however, lasted only minutes. Cadbury Heath striker Kevin Zyberi turned sharply, and fired into the far corner, leaving keeper Will Hunter helpless.

Welton continued to press, and Seviour saw a goal‑bound effort blocked by a defender’s trailing leg while a free kick found Harry Cade, whose first‑time strike was saved by Smith.

Welton resumed the second half on the front foot. Morris curled an effort wide, and Charles headed over. But in the 55th minute, the visitors took the lead in extraordinary circumstances. Captain Scott Hatcher attempted to switch play, only for the pass to strike the back of Hunter. The ball dropped behind the keeper and stuck in the mud. Zyberi reacted quickest, nipping in to prod the ball into the unguarded net.

However, Welton’s persistence paid off in the 85th minute when former Cadbury Heath boss George Boon sent a speculative cross‑shot from deep into the area. Smith got a hand to it but could only push the ball onto the post and into the net.

Another fine effort from Boon was tipped over by Smith before Cadbury Heath struck the decisive blow late on. Substitute Matt Issacs seized upon a loose ball and fired a low shot past the diving Hunter.
