Mendip Ladies’ Hockey push for a top two finish in the Central Division was dealt a blow on Saturday by a clinical Winscombe team.

Winscombe took the lead early in the first half, with a fierce shot from close range. They soon doubled their lead in a similar fashion. Mendip upped their work rate and improved the quality of their passing play in the second half, with Player of the Match, Jess Smith, making a number of great runs. With the home side pushing forward, Winscombe exploited a gap behind the Mendip defence to score a third and put the game beyond Mendip’s reach.

Mendip must go into this Saturday’s fixture at Bridgwater with the determination and intensity of their second half display if they are to maintain a realistic chance of promotion.
