Colliers Way Cycling Group cycled from Clevedon to Blaise Castle in Bristol as the third leg of their Avon Cycleway tour. This stage completed the first half of the circuit, from the River Avon near Saltford following a clockwise loop through the Chew Valley to cross the Avon once again on the M5 Bridge.
The day’s ride was a little less challenging than previous sections, with much gentler gradients than those encountered through Compton Dando, Pensford and Brockley Combe!
Setting off from the Victorian pier in Clevedon, the route followed a quiet lane tucked into a wooded hillside with views across attractive countryside criss-crossed with rhynes. A cycle path then carried the group across the motorway bridge, through parkland and up to Blaise Castle, skirting Bristol’s industrial edgelands.
Colliers Way Cycling Group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for fitness and leisure rides of twenty to thirty miles, usually starting in Radstock. There’s a different route and café each ride, always cycling on quiet country lanes. New members are welcome and starter sessions are available for those who may not be quite ready for group rides.
