Timsbury’s Third XI edged out Hampset in a thrilling, low scoring match to record consecutive victories following last week’s success at Midsomer Norton.
Batting first upon winning the toss, the visitors lost early wickets, but Will Jeffrey and Matthew Ball steadied the ship.
Ball fell for 41, but Jeffrey kept a cool head to reach his second senior half century before being dismissed by Ethan Silcox. A lower order collapse meant that 111–2 soon became 136 all out, Mike Bogg picking up three wickets from seven tidy overs.
Timsbury knew that early wickets would be vital to give them a chance of defending their total, and James Rawlings delivered the perfect start by removing Silcox in the first over. The visitors took wickets at regular intervals, Ben Hosford (2–19) and Ashley Davis (1–17) keeping the pressure on.
Ollie Davis then grabbed three wickets in quick succession to leave the visitors on the brink of victory, and when Zack Cox removed Andy Fletcher for 25, the game looked over with 34 still needed. However, the final Hampset pair of Adam Squires and Josh Smith had other ideas, and just sixteen was required when Smith was caught at cover by Will Jarvis off Russ Smith’s bowling to secure a Timsbury victory.
