On Sunday, 3rd February, Chilcompton Sports Cricket Club held their AGM at Chilcompton Sports Club, which was well-supported by club Members.
The club thanked their main sponsors, Parker Transport (SW) Ltd, Spectrum Form Design Ltd and PG Owen Ltd, for their continued generous support of the Cricket Club.
The club also thanked the following companies who helped with the outside net build – Steve Davis Building Contractors, Tesco Bags for Help, Aggregate Industries Ltd, Morris & Perry Ltd, Sperring Charity and Band in the Barn. Chilcompton Sports Club were also thanked for providing excellent facilities.
This year will be the fifth season as Chilcompton Sports Cricket Club, and 2018 marked the most successful to date from the Senior Section. The Saturday First XI finished runners-up in Bristol and District Division Six, and will play in Division Five this season.
The Sunday Second XI finished mid-table, just missing out on the promotion places, and will play in Bristol & District Division Thirteen this season. The Sunday XI also finished runners-up in North Somerset Division Four, and will play in Division Three this season.
The Youth Teams had a hugely enjoyable season under new coach, Mark Watts, and both the U11 and U13 sides finished mid-table in the Bath and District Youth Cricket League. The Membership for the Junior Section doubled in 2018, which was great to see in only its second full season.
The Junior Enrolment Night will be held at Chilcompton Sports Club on Friday, 22nd March at 6 p.m. Junior Training Sessions will be held again at Chilcompton Sports Club on Wednesday Evenings (6.15 p.m. to 7.45 p.m.), starting on 17th April.
Following in the footsteps of Joe Fussell in 2018, we saw Alexandra Baughan selected to represent Somerset in 2019. This is a great achievement for Victoria, who is one of our promising girls playing in our Mixed U11 and U13 sides.
During March, the club will complete Stage Two of the Outside Net Project, with the installation of a new playing surface for both of the net lanes. It is hoped that the club will be able to complete Stage Three later in the season, which will see the whole surface carpeted. Lots of fundraising will continue to to hopefully complete this project.
Senior Indoor Nets Continue on Thursdays, 14th, 21st and 28th March at Wells Blue School (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.), where current, old and new players are all welcome. Senior Outside Nets will start on Thursday, 4th April from 6.30 p.m. at Chilcompton Sports Club.
