In last Saturday’s friendly fixture against Frome, Midsomer Norton’s First XI lost by six wickets. Batting first and recovering from 137–7, Norton were bowled out for 200 in the fortieth over.
Nick Cox was the main run scorer with sixty not out, with opener, Dean Clifton, scoring 38 and former skipper, Nick Potter, chipping in with 27. Tom Barton took 5–24.
Frome passed the required target in the 34th over to secure their six wicket victory. Opening bat, Robin Lett, carried his bat to score 102 not out and Daniel Dredge scored 51. Norton skipper, Nick Pang, took 2–30.
The first league cricket of the season takes place this coming weekend, when Midsomer Norton’s Sunday side visits Easton Cowboys in Bristol in the North Somerset Cricket League’s Sunday Conference Division One.
There is a friendly fixture at Withies Lane this Saturday afternoon starting at 1.30 p.m. Also at Withies Lane, on Sunday and Monday, Somerset Over-50s play Wales Over-50s; the matches start at 1 p.m. on both days. On Tuesday, (2nd May), Somerset Over-60s take on Wiltshire Over-60s at Withies Lane – starting time is again 1 p.m.
Youth training takes place again on Friday evening at the club. These evenings are very sociable; current and new members have an opportunity to learn more about the game.
