SOMERSET batter Sean Dickson will be leaving the county club at the end of the season to join Glamorgan.

The 34-year-old player, whose current contract expires at the end of this summer, said: “I’ve loved every moment of my time with Somerset. I’m going to cherish every memory I’ve made here.

“The Cooper Associates County Ground is one of the best I’ve ever played at and the support we get down here is amazing. That’s something I’ll definitely miss. Things haven’t necessarily gone to plan in red ball cricket, but when you’re an opening batter these things can happen.

“I’ve made Taunton my home and my second child was born down here so that’s something that we’ll always cherish.”

Somerset County Cricket Club’s director of cricket Andy Hurry said: “Sean has made some outstanding contributions to Somerset in the Vitality Blast competition.

“His impact on the field has been a key factor in our achievements in recent years, and equally his influence and presence off the field have been hugely valuable to the club.

“We would like to sincerely thank Sean for his commitment, professionalism and the significant role he has played in taking the club forward. “

Dickson hammered a magnificent 71 off 26 balls to see Somerset through to this season’s Vitality Blast Finals Day in the thrilling four-wicket victory over Birmingham Bears at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

The visitors made 190-6 after winning the toss, with Alex Davies top scoring with 71 off just 39 balls, with 13 fours .

Somerset were 49-1 after the power play ended and this soon became 64-2.

Despite Dickson’s 19-ball 50, Somerset still required 19 off the final over. But Dickson was far from finished, and hit two sixes before smashing a straight four to win the game for Somerset. Earlier Tom Abell had hit 50 off 39 balls.
