SOMERSET’S Fran Wilson has decided to retire from playing. The 33-year-old former England international initially represented Somerset between 2006 and 2014, scoring over 1700 List A runs at an average of 32.90 with a best of 103. During that time, she also played 20 T20 matches for the County, scoring 810 runs at 50.62 with a best of 99.

This season saw her return to the county as an important part of the first ever professional Somerset Women’s team. This summer she represented the club on 28 occasions across the formats, scoring 574 runs.

During her career, Fran also played a key role for Western Storm, helping the team to claim two Kia Super League titles.

Her England debut came in 2010, and she went on to make 64 appearances across the three formats, scoring more than 800 runs. Her biggest accomplishment came in 2017 when she played her part as England claimed the ICC Cricket World Cup.

She has also represented Gloucestershire, Sunrisers, Middlesex, Kent, Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Thunder, Welsh Fire, Trent Rockets, Oval Invincibles and Birmingham Phoenix.

Regarding her decision, Fran said: “I have decided that the 2025 season was my last and that I will be hanging up my bat – for good this time.

“What a ride it’s been, one that’s taken me to all corners of the globe with England and then in more recent times back to the West Country.

“To have a locker in the changing room at the CACG was beyond my wildest dreams as a young player. To know this opportunity is now normal for women is incredible and to have been a part of the growth of the game is something I take immense pride in.”

Fran added: “I’m excited about what’s next and I look forward to staying involved and contributing to our game.”
