In an exciting contest that was only decided in the final over of the game, Midsomer Norton’s U19 Greencaps team secured a victory over local rivals Timsbury, at Withies Lane, last Friday evening.

With live match commentary on Somer FM, Timsbury batted first and made steady progress against some tight bowling from the Norton attack, to reach 60-2 at the halfway point in the innings. By the time that the twentieth and final over was completed, Timsbury had set the home side a target of 122, with tight bowling by Toby Hobbs and Morgan Skipp pulling the visitors back from a commanding position.

In many ways, Norton’s response mirrored the example set by the visitors. The home side scored 41 off the first six overs and lost their first wicket in the ninth over when the score was 62.

Wayward bowling by the visitors and a mature innings of 46, by Harrison Veale, had put Norton in the box seat until a few nerves crept in as the Greencaps got nearer the finishing line. It took a scrambled single from Reuben Hobbs off the first ball of the last over to secure their victory.

The result leaves Norton with three wins in five group games. Whilst this may not be enough to see them progress to the finals day, the establishment of the Greencaps squad has been a major success and Team Manager, Dan Cox would like to extend his thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors and spectators who have made the Greencaps’ nights so memorable this season.
