Kilmersdon completed a League double over Keynsham with a 23-run victory in a match kindly sponsored by Quick Print of Midsomer Norton.

Batting first under cloudless skies, Kilmersdon got off to a quick start with a run of boundaries from Ashley Davis. The loss of fellow opener, James Lancaster, for five brought a run of wickets, but Davis pressed on and reached his first half-century for the club, before being bowled by Lewis Ewins for 54.

Mark Batchelar also brought up his fifty soon after and looked set to reach three figures but fell for 82, bowled by Luke Bishop. Darren Davis added a couple of quick boundaries at the end to close the innings on 182-9. Ewins finished as the pick of the Keynsham bowlers with 3-39.

The visitors’ reply got off to a cautious start thanks to some accurate bowling; Kilmersdon doing well to ensure that the run chase never got above the required rate. Matt Trenchard and Peter Browne’s partnership clawed Keynsham back into contention, before Trenchard fell to Matt Ball for 39.

Browne’s fine innings of 54 was ended soon after by Charlotte Hazell, who then collected another wicket to end with 2-28. Harry Humphries’ guile and accuracy were rewarded with figures of 3-16 from seven overs, and there was a wicket for Captain, Darren Davis, plus a run out by Alex Gardiner as Kilmersdon secured victory.

Next week, Kilmersdon travel to Whitchurch, hoping to complete another double following their victory earlier in the season.
