Hard-hitting Saltford Fairway batted first and though they’d lost both openers within eight overs of the start, were able to demonstrate the gulf between themselves and their hosts.
A massive third-wicket stand of 150+ between Jamie Pattimore and Taynton took the visitors from a mediocre position to one of commanding authority, the pair seemingly peppering the boundary at will as the Methodists’ bowlers struggled to contain them during their 22-over onslaught. Pattimore was eventually stumped off the bowling of Graham Smith for a thumping 81, but Taynton continued on until the final over, when a tired shot saw him finally dismissed for a magnificent 126. Salford finishing with a monumental 292 for 6 at tea.
The home side’s reply was in trouble from the start as the visiting bowlers’ extra pace found the Methodists’ top-order wanting. Pattimore and Dave Davies – backed up by some stunning catching, claimed five and four wickets respectively, as ten-man Saltford quickly ran through their hosts’ batting line-up. Skipper Stuart Green’s defiant 15 was the only score in double figures. The Methodists finally bowled out for 49 halfway through the seventeenth over – as a jubilant Saltford side wrapped up their first win of the season by a whopping 243 runs.
