Bohemians 2nds 198–6 Methodists 222–6

The Methodists made the trip to Stoke Gifford on a humid afternoon, where Bohemians asked them to bat first. Mark Robinson and Alex Nash made a good start with 53 in 11 overs before Subhashish Dash (2–29) made the first breakthrough.

Two quick wickets for Mark England (2–36) then saw David Baker join Nash in the middle for what would be a pivotal partnership – their 115 in twenty overs putting the visitors firmly in control. Baker eventually fell to Mohit for a dashing 41, while Nash went to a magnificent century (his third of 2018 in all cricket) with his twelfth boundary, before one shot too many saw him depart for 117 – the Methodists posting a competitive 222–6 at tea.

After the break, the Bohemian batsmen were kept in check by some attritional bowling from Baker and Daniel Shearn – the pair conceding only 45 runs in the initial sixteen overs of the innings, leaving the hosts 24 overs to score another 178. Rich Jones and Alex White, having decided they had to up the ante, then began to hit out, boosting the score to 120 and adding 111 for the second wicket before White (75) eventually top-edged a catch. Jones continued on, bringing up his own half-century, but the Methodists’ bowlers managed the scoring-rate and when the opener finally fell to the accurate Josh Potter (2–43) the game was pretty much done – the visitors holding on for their first league victory of the season to win by 24 runs.

This weekend’s game: Methodists away to Stothert and Pitt.
