THE Methodists' latest game saw them travelling into Bristol to play ten-man St George Valley CC, where they re-wrote the history books.
The home side chose to bowl first, while the opening pair of skipper Alex Nash and Mark Robinson got the visitors' batting underway. Despite tidy early spells from Martin Ubank and Zaheer Abbass, the Methodists pair got off to a great start, exploiting the larger gaps in the field and bringing up the team fifty in the ninth over.
The introduction of some less frequent bowlers into the attack then allowed the batters to up the tempo - the hundred stand coming up after fifteen overs, and the Methodists' previous best partnership of 207 eclipsed in the 31st. By this time Nash (186*) was in full flow and had already reached his century, and there was little that the home side could do to stop the visitors piling on the runs.
The three hundred came up just before Robinson (101*) brought up a well-deserved second career century - and the final total of 323-0 was the second highest for the Methodists. It was also the first time ever in the club's 76-year history that an opening pair had batted through the entire 40 overs unbeaten.
After tea, the understrength St George put on a decent show, with captain Joe Eizenberg (26) and the entertaining Abbass (36) helping the hosts past the hundred, but the Methodists' bowlers - all ten of them - managed to get the wickets required to record a massive 184-run win, with Craig Eyles (2-2) and David Baker (2-25) the pick of the visitors' attack.
