MIDSOMER NORTON 240 TAUNTON 60

Last Saturday, on a sunny day, MNCC won the toss and got off to a great start, putting on 43 in the first six overs, mainly due to John Carroll scoring 33 off 29 balls. Taunton then took three wickets in just two overs to leave Norton stumbling at 45/3.

A great stand of 115 between Nick Cox (54) and Jake Rowe (72) set Norton up for a good score. The rest of the batsmen struggled but got the total up to 240 thanks to Martin Cox (16 not-out), surprisingly batting at number 9.

On a deteriorating wicket, Taunton struggled against the tight bowling of Dan Chard (3-19) and Gary Filer (2-20). Josh Sutton and Nick Pang cleared up the tail to give Norton victory by 180 runs and a very useful 22 points.

Midsomer Norton remain in fourth place in the table and this Saturday, 13th July, visit Weston-super-Mare. The game starts at 12.30 p.m.

All the Saturday sides won last weekend, with Toby Marsh scoring a half-century in a narrow, six-run win for the Seconds against Bristol West Indian Phoenix, and Callum Bicknell taking 3-34 and scoring 47 not-out in the Third XI’s win over Bradley Stoke. This Saturday, the Second XI are at home to Failand & Portbury and the Third XI visit Hampset. Both games start at 1.30 p.m.
