After Norton lost the toss on what looked like a good batting wicket, they made a solid start with the ball, restricting Bristol to 30–1 from the opening ten overs. In partnership with Kinsey, Bristol opener, Redwood, showed patience as Norton’s bowlers challenged with good line and length and restricted Bristol’s scoring rate.

However, the removal of Hunt by Pang brought Ellison to the crease and he carried his bat for eighty with a series of blistering sweeps. He was supported well by the Bristol middle order, and the second half of the innings saw Norton’s bowlers leak runs at a rate of nearly seven an over to leave themselves a difficult task of mustering 253 to win.

A tight opening spell by Morrison was just what was needed by Bristol and he removed Lear and Pang, both caught behind the wicket, with good deliveries and after eleven overs, Norton had their backs to the wall at 45–3.

A good partnership from Martin and Nick Cox sought to get Norton back into the game, but an important LBW decision that removed Martin Cox for 57 sank Norton hearts with 100 runs still required.

A domino effect ensued thereafter and the remaining five wickets fell quickly resulting in a 66 run loss for Norton. They were left to rue missed chances and a lack of fortune in the field and they head to Stapleton on Saturday looking to avenge their defeat earlier in the season.

Stapleton also provide the opposition for Norton’s Second XI in a 1.30 p.m. start at Withies Lane on Saturday. The Second XI enjoyed a 120-run win at Congresbury last weekend and will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the BDA Fourth Division against the side currently in third place. The Third XI play away at Oldfield Park.
