Midsomer Norton completed their final round of friendly fixtures last weekend with convincing wins for both the First and Second XIs.
At Clevedon, the Firsts’ decision to bat after winning the toss was vindicated when the visitors posted a huge total of 310/8 from just 45 overs, scoring seven sixes and 28 fours in the process. Nick Pang and Paul Robbins posted a 60-run partnership for the first wicket, Pang falling short of his century with 97 off just seventy balls. Thomas Hankins scored 34 and player coach Jake Rowe scored 66 at better than a run per ball.
Clevedon never really got out of the starting blocks in reply and found themselves 35-3, with Gary Filer (3-37) taking all three wickets to that point. The home team’s middle and lower order showed some fightback and resistance, but Clevedon were bowled out for 249, Midsomer Norton winning by 61 runs. There were also wickets for Max Bartlett, Jake Rowe, Chris Phylips, Nick Pang and Paul Robbins.
At Withies Lane, the Seconds won by an even greater margin, defeating Warminster by 140 runs. Martin Cox (35) and Andrew Cox (47 not out) top scored in Norton’s 234-9. Warminster were bowled out for 94. Charlotte Phillips ended with figures of 4-22 and the other wickets were shared between Morgan Skipp, Niel Brooks, Andrew Cox and Alex Davis. League fixtures for the clubs’ senior sides begin this weekend.
