Bad weather put paid to two of Midsomer Norton Cricket Club’s fixtures last Saturday when the rain meant that not a ball was bowled in the First and Third team fixtures.

The Second XI match was completed though – a testament to the work that Phil Mortimer and others put in to preparing the square and the outfield at Withies Lane.

Despite the grey skies, Midsomer Norton were able to complete their 45 overs having been put into bat by visitors, Old Down CC. Opener, Luke Justin, was the stand-out performer with the bat for the home side, with Luke scoring 104 at exactly a run-per-ball. At the close of their innings, Midsomer Norton had reached 235-7, a decent total in the conditions.

Over tea, the heavens opened and the restart was delayed. Further interruptions because of rain meant that Old Down had a revised target of 115 from 22 overs. They were restricted to 103-6, with Harrison Veale taking 4-19. Neil Brooks and Luke Justin were the other wicket takers. Midsomer Norton won by eleven runs.

This Saturday, 22nd June (weather permitting), the First XI return to action with a home fixture against North Perrot, one point and one place above Midsomer Norton in WEPL Prem Two. The game starts at 12.30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Second XI travel to Backwell Flax Bourton and the Third XI have a home fixture against Hallen CC. Both games start at 1.30 p.m.
