Under overcast skies, on a dry wicket but slippery outfield, this midweek T20 Intermediate Cup match was reduced to fifteen overs per side.
Last year’s winners and visitors, Temple Cloud, batted first and looked to attack from the first over. Miles Hackett was caught for a quick-fire 11, bringing Captain, Kevin Curtis, to the crease. Kevin continued to keep the scoreboard ticking whilst his brother, Simon, departed for 1.
Youngster, Billy Garrett, and Matt Shepherd also contributed, with a single run each as they continued with the attacking approach. Kevin was eventually out to an unfortunate LBW for an excellent, aggressive 30. Mark Lumbo Hamblin (51) hit balls hard to the fence regularly and Jon Doel (18 not-out) ran ones and twos well, as Temple finished content, with a competitive 123 for 6 from their fifteen overs. S. Wheeler has the best bowling figures for Frome, with 3-0-23-3.
Frome got off to a flyer thanks to some loose bowling from the Temple opening bowlers. They were 14 after one over and 26 off two overs. Change bowlers, Miles Hackett, Rob Head, Lumbo and K. Curtis, all bowled with tight line and length to keep the Frome batsmen in check. L. Dredge (23) and A. Veal (22) scored well but couldn’t kick on as the Temple team kept things tight with their ground fielding.
Eventually, Frome came up twenty runs short, sending Temple Cloud into the next round.
