A fine knock of 82 from former Timsbury batsman, Pete Tweedie, was not enough to prevent relegation-threatened Keynsham 2nd XI from losing by five wickets at home to his old club in the Bristol and District League Senior Division. A thrilling match was in doubt right up to the end, with Timsbury coming home with just two balls to spare.
Opening the batting for the home side, Tweedie held the innings together. Later, a lively knock of 54 from Sam Pollinger and 32 from the experienced Richard Pannell boosted the Keynsham total to 241. The recalled Ellis Hancock took the first four wickets to fall in a fine spell of 4–41 and there were three wickets each for Alex Young (3–40) and Captain, Steve Clothier (3–45). The Timsbury fielding effort was like the Curate’s egg, good in parts, with some fine catches mixed with some lacklustre fielding.
Mark Sage got the Timsbury reply off to its usual rapid start, before falling to Simon Knowles for 25 – it was then over to the young brigade to maintain the momentum. Nathan Hawkins led the way, with a well-constructed innings of 63, opener, Adam Brinkworth, hit a stylish 39 and Jesse Bishop struck 24 before 2nd XI Captain, Gary Pearcy, more than justified his elevation to first team action with an excellent undefeated knock of 37. The Keynsham side fielded well, but their cause was not helped by a total of 44 extras, which included 25 wides.
