University of Bristol Staff 2nd XI 217- 5 Timsbury 2nd XI 221- 6
A fine all-round match from teenager, Sol Thompson, saw Timsbury 2nd XI grab a thrilling four wicket win at home to University of Bristol Staff 2nd XI in the Bristol and District League Division Nine. They reached a target of 218, with just four deliveries left.
The mainstay of the visitors’ innings of 217-5 was Alistair Brearley, who scored 76 before becoming one of Thompson’s three victims as he finished with 3-46. Timsbury had a day to forget in the field, dropping a total of eight catches.
In reply, the home side lost the early wicket of George Brinkworth, but Thompson then ushered his side to victory with a mature and sensible knock of 84 not out. He received good support from Lewis Bond-Kendall (26), Kelvin Hancock (22) and James Rawlings (20), but mainly from Clive Parsons (31 not out) in the vital unbeaten seventh wicket stand. Mo Rashid was the visitors’ most successful bowler with 3-32.
