On the same afternoon that the Windies were putting England to the sword at Headingley, Timsbury were suffering a similar fate, away to Bristol West Indian Phoenix in their penultimate game of the season in the Bristol and District League Senior Division.
A disappointing batting display saw them dismissed for 103 for the second week running, and the Bristol side knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket, with over 20 overs to spare.
The return of promising young fast bowler, Duval Pierre, to the club after a spell in West of England Premier League cricket, has given BWIP a potent attacking force and he took the important wicket of Mark Sage in just his second over and later cleaned up the tail.
Gary Pearcy battled hard for the visitors, before losing patience and being bowled for twenty while Greg Passingham ran out of partners after batting sensibly for an undefeated fifteen. Extras of 33 were the principal contribution to the Timsbury total, which ended in the 29th over.
Wisdom Danns was the most successful home bowler, with 3–21, while Pierre, who also took a stunning catch to dismiss the dangerous Graeme Webb, finished with 3–23.
Timsbury Captain, Steve Clothier, used six bowlers in an attempt to get wickets, but the only player to lose his wicket was Christian Barrow, who was LBW to Jon Strand for nineteen.
Nick Clark followed up his century of the previous week with an undefeated 53, while the irrepressible Pierre was 25 not out.
Timsbury’s last game of the season is at home to Portishead on Saturday, which will have no effect on their league status, but is vitally important for the visitors, who having looked relegation certainties at one point in the campaign and who now have a realistic chance of survival.
