Timsbury cruised into the third round of the Watson’s Village Cup with a comprehensive ten-wicket win at home to local rivals, Chew Magna.
The home side won a vital toss after the rain of the previous day and the Chew Magna innings never got off the ground after being put into bat. Home openers, Mark Sage and Adam Brinkworth, then made light of the target and saw their side home with eighteen overs to spare.
Chew Magna made the worst possible start, losing opener, David Lawrence, to an early run-out. In no time, they had subsided to 29–5 and it needed a partnership between Gary Filer and Charlie Thompson, who both made thirty, to take the total to 116. Six Timsbury bowlers shared the wickets, with Gary Pearcy returning the best figures of 3–4.
Sage and Brinkworth, who had put on 84 for the first wicket the previous day, continued where they had left off. Sage was given one life, but in general the pair batted with supreme confidence. Brinkworth reached his half-century first, eventually finishing 57 not out, while Sage was undefeated on 52.
In the next round, on Sunday, Timsbury face a tough task Away to Shapwick and Polden, who are in the Premier Two section of the West of England Premier League.
