THE penultimate weekend of the cricket season saw Timsbury produce one of their most disappointing displays of the campaign but despite an 82 run away defeat at Hambrook there is still everything to play for on the last day of the Bristol and District League Division 1 season.
Starting the weekend in top place Timsbury now lie third but significantly they are at home to second placed Whitchurch and victory would ensure promotion.
After electing to bat first Hambrook went off like a train mainly due to Cameron Perry who raced to 71 before he was dismissed with his side at 98-1. Jay Wittram kept up the momentum with 42 as the home side reached 207 from their overs. Martin Richards was the most successful of the visitors’ attack with 3-43 and there were two wickets each for Jon Strand (2-32), Liam Hosford (2-39) and Gary Pearcy (2-49).
When Timsbury replied Strand went early but Mark Sage looked in good touch. When he departed for 34 the innings lost its way and only Josh Tucker with 30 looked the part with no other player reaching double figures in a lacklustre total of 125. Perry completed a fine individual performance with bowling figures of 4-20.
It was a much different day for Timsbury second eleven who demolished Whitchurch second XI by nine wickets at home in the Bristol and District League Division 6. James Rawlings set the pattern early on with two wickets and was later to feature significantly with the bat.
The experienced Dave Millard held the Whitchurch innings together with a fine knock of 56 but with Ben Saunder taking 4-37 and Rawlings 3-29 the visitors were dismissed for 183. Rawlings and acting captain Ben Hosford got Timsbury off to a solid start and when the latter was out for 20 Rawlings was joined by George Webb . An unbeaten stand of 142 saw Timsbury home in style with Rawlings finishing unbeaten on 98 with Webb 51 not out.
Timsbury’s third team were well beaten at home by high flying Lansdown third eleven in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East. Batting first the visitors made 236-6 from their 40 overs with Andy Cox making 59 and Ashton Williams 50. Max Steeds bowled well to take 3-25. In reply Paul Sage and Will Rawlings with 16 each were Timsbury’s top scorers but with Chris Edwards taking 3-10 the home side were dismissed for 90.
