Timsbury’s inconsistent season saw them follow an emphatic win away to Portishead with a disappointing three wicket home defeat against Hambrook in the Bristol and District League Senior Division. It gave the Bristol side the double over Timsbury in the first game of the second half of the season, having beaten them by one wicket in the opening match of the campaign in May.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Timsbury lost openers, Adam Brinkworth and Mark Sage early on, before Graeme Webb (33) and Greg Passingham (28), added 54 for the third wicket. They were both dismissed, however, when looking well set and it needed a knock of 47 from Jesse Bishop, who punished Hambrook for their profligacy in the field to take Timsbury to 188–9 from their 45 overs. There were two wickets each for Richard Dyer, who dismissed both openers and Adrian Kislingbury.
Timsbury looked for an early breakthrough when Hambrook replied but it never came. Looking in little trouble, openers, Calum Martin and James Wigzell, added 96 for the first wicket. It needed the introduction of third change bowler, Webb, to breathe life into the Timsbury effort. He dismissed Martin for 52 and Wigzell for 38 and when he came to the end of his nine over stint, had the impressive figures of 4–39. It was always the visitors’ game to lose and an innings of 31 from Alex Dyer, who took them to the brink of victory before his brother and Captain, Lee Dyer, hit the winning boundary off the first ball of the last over. Jon Strand was Timsbury’s other wicket taker, finishing with 3–47. Things don’t get any easier for Timsbury this coming Saturday, as they visit in-form league leaders, Congresbury. M.Tucker
