Downend 2nd XI 253- 9 Timsbury 152

Timsbury were very much second best in their return fixture with Downend 2nd XI and were beaten by 101 runs.

Dominant batting at the top of the Bristol side’s innings saw them reach 183 before the second wicket fell and although Timsbury came back well to restrict them to 253-9, the total proved well out of the home side’s reach.

Openers, Chris Binnie and Ben Ford, set up the Downend total after the visitors had decided to bat first. Binnie rode his luck to make 66, while Ford hit a commanding 73 as they put on 131 for the first wicket. Mike Ponter then hit a rapid 32 before Timsbury skipper, Steve Clothier, turned to his seventh bowler, Tom Parfitt, who was making his first senior appearance of the season. He immediately took two wickets in his first over and then proceeded to show a golden arm with figures of 6-41 as the visitors lost eight wickets for 70 runs.

In reply, Timsbury lost the vital wicket of Mark Sage for 12 and although Adam Brinkworth (24) and Nathan Hawkins (22) briefly threatened, Timsbury were soon in trouble at 106-8. Sam Hoddinott then played his best innings of the season to finish undefeated on 35 as Timsbury rallied to collect three batting bonus points. Bobby Naeem was Downend’s most successful bowler with 3-39.
