2012 was a year of conflicting experiences for Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club. What seemed to be a year of continuous rain showed that the drainage of the four lawns needed improvement, unless underwater croquet was to be the game! Days of play were lost and Taster Days had to be postponed. But now the club has drafted in drainage experts who are solving the problem, so the lawns are ready for 2013.
Even though the wet weather curtailed play, 2012 was a successful time for the club, membership has increased with now over 20% of new members from our local community. One of the club's teams won their regional competition and five members, including four 'new' members, won their way through to the Finals of the National Competition, one person came second; a fantastic achievement for someone who took up croquet in 2012!
The club was also a finalist in the Bath Chronicle's Sport Award 2012 as 'Senior Club of the Year', not bad for a new club. With the support of Peasedown Cricket Club, croquet continued throughout the winter. Yes, even the coldest days cannot stop members from playing croquet!
The club has a strong social calendar, with quizzes, dances, club competitions for players at all levels, treasure hunts, ghost walks, monthly lunches and lots more – the club offers members a wide range of activities. All this was outlined at the club's recent AGM and members look forward to 2013.
So, the club has scheduled a beginner's course – five sessions on Sunday afternoons from 2 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. starting on Sunday, 7th April. All equipment is supplied, all you need to bring are flat-soled shoes. The club's experienced coaches will show you how to play this interesting game, how to score hoops and how to remove your opponent's ball!
Contact Mo Boys on: 01225 708540 or email: [email protected]">[email protected] to find out more or to reserve your place. If you cannot make these dates, then come along to the club's 'Play Days', every Monday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon from 1.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. where you will be greeted by club members and coaches who will introduce you to the game.
