The sun shone down on twelve croquet players at Camerton and
Peasedown Croquet Club on Sunday, 25th April as they took part in a National One Ball Croquet Tournament in aid of The British Heart Foundation.
‘One Ball’ blends both Association and Golf Croquet – it is fast, exciting, challenging your skills and little grey cells.
It is a series of ‘singles’ games with less experienced players having the benefit of ‘extra turns’, or ‘free shots’ to even things up. Five of the players had just started ‘One Ball’ this year – and one of these ‘newcomers’ finished in second place!
Every game was hotly contested and always in the most sporting manner – players enjoyed their day and the picnic lunch (all in line with covid rules!)
The Club has taken part in this National Competition for some time – but this year we have attracted more players than ever
before.
After a day of exciting croquet, John Rowley and Christina Sandford (the top two players) will be going to the Final at
Surbiton.
There was a final ‘shoot out’ and John narrowly beat Christina to win the new ‘One Ball’ Trophy.
The Club raised £165 for The British Heart Foundation, who work towards a world free of the fear of heart and circulatory
disease, funding research and treatment that saves many people’s lives whilst supporting their families.
“We are an all-inclusive Club with close links to our local community. Croquet is an outdoor sport for everyone – one with health benefits and where, after a short introduction, you can take part in a game, said Chair, Mo Boys.
“All equipment is provided – just wear flat soled shoes. If you are interested in trying croquet, (our beginners’ course of four weekly sessions, starts on Sunday, 9th May) in line with covid regulations. Please phone me on: 07929 733640 to arrange your own croquet experience.”
