Paulton Bowls Club send its deepest condolences to the Royal Family in this time of national bereavement.
In this week tinged with sorrow, we played away against Purnell at Norwest’s ground in the FCC, however during the eighth end the heavens opened and the players came off to await an abatement of the weather but this was not to be as the green was temporarily overcome by the amount of water, perhaps a portent of future events, so the match was declared a draw.
Both midweek games were cancelled, however on Saturday we played at home against South Petherton in the second leg of the Petherton Cup tournament in which this year we were successful, winning overall, as we also triumphed in the first leg. This brings the Cup to Paulton for only the second time in the long history of the encounters between our clubs, Petherton’s Captain graciously handing the cup to Dave Beard during her after match speech.
Sunday afternoon saw the club involved in its annual animated and boisterous internecine game between President and Captains’ teams with the honours going to the Presidents’ team this year, the game being followed by a delicious finger buffet.
Finally the well attended Macmillan Tea Party raised over £360 for the charity so congratulations to all those involved with the organisation of this event.
This is the concluding communication this season as the green closes on the 24th of the month, although the Ladies play for the Doreen Holly trophy this coming week and the club does organise a fortnightly visit to Carrie Dunbar indoor rinks throughout the winter.
However to plagiarise the immortal words of the Terminator: We’ll be BACK.
A J Meaton
