MIDSOMER Norton’s Tae Kwon-Do club are celebrating success at the World Championships in Coventry this month.

They were competing against over 2,000 competitors from across the world, with teams from as far afield as Australia, Argentina and Columbia.

And in an impressive result, the team brought home two medals: Edyta Fober - club instructor, 2nd Degree Black Belt, Individual Sparring; and Lucy-Ann Bailey 5th Kup, Individual Patterns - World Champion.

Midsomer Norton TAGB Tae Kwon-Do instructor Ms Fober said: “What an amazing weekend of accomplishments for our team. Huge congratulations to everyone who was competing. It was great to see the old friends as well as making a new Tae Kwon-Do friends over the three-day event.

“We are extremely proud of you all, it’s not easy to step on the mats not knowing who your opponents are going to be. Performing on front of the judges, other competitors and crowds!

“This is an amazing achievement just to get to take part in such a prestigious competition.

“As much as we can accomplish staying within the four walls of our Dojang (training studio), we can grow even more when we accept interactions and lend thought to the perspectives of those not in our immediate group. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet martial artists from across the world with various backgrounds. Talk, compete and learn from them.

“Everyone pushed themselves and stepped outside their comfort zone. Your dedication and determination paid off. You made us proud.

“Also, it’s not only about the competition but the hours of training and preparation that nobody sees. You have to be in it to win it.

“It’s a life changing experience and it’s not just about the medals and titles. It’s about the of chasing a dream, about personal progress, about development of new habits and people with similar interests that you meet on the way.

“It’s about the high of excitement and the accomplishment of facing and overcoming challenges. The student develops into a stronger more focused person with new skills. They become better at goal setting, develops a good work ethic, focus, coordination, improvement on fitness.”
