Golf club members at Farrington Park have kindly chosen to support the Forever Friends Appeal at the R.U.H. throughout 2014.
Kevin Brimble, Men's Captain, Didi Ager, Ladies Captain, Jim Farmer, Seniors Captain, and Jack Cook, Junior Captain, are encouraging the community to join them on their positive challenge to raise funds towards the Forever Friends Appeal's R.U.H. Cancer Care Campaign. The Appeal are raising £8.5 million (funding 33%) towards a new pioneering Cancer Centre, which will dramatically transform cancer care for the patients and their families in the R.U.H. catchment area.
Over the forthcoming year, the four Club Captains will be organising fun, social events, such as a quiz evening, club golf competitions, a longest day golf marathon and a combined Captains' Charity Golf Day.
Kevin Brimble, Men's Captain, comments: "I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in October 2012 and since then, I have experienced first-hand the expert care available from the medical staff at the Royal United Hospital. I have met some wonderful people during my ongoing therapy, but, sadly, the facilities are somewhat dated and not what they could be."
The existing R.U.H. cancer services are located in seventy-year-old wartime accommodation and in much need of being dramatically transformed. A state-of-the-art new £23.5m Cancer Centre will provide a highly beneficial and healing environment for the patients and their families at the R.U.H.
Kevin continues: "Being chosen to captain Farrington Park is a tremendous honour and has provided a perfect opportunity to support the Forever Friends Appeal. I am delighted that the other Captains have all joined forces with me to support this very deserving cause."
Zoe Tainton, Community Fundraiser, comments: "We are very pleased that Farrington Park have chosen to support us this year. Thank you to all those organising and supporting the fundraising activities, it is an amazing team effort."
