Lebeq 4 Welton Rovers 1

Welton made the long trip to Oaklands Park North Bristol, but came back empty-handed after they were well beaten by Lebeq. Welton had only lost one game in their last six matches, so this was a disappointing result.

The hosts opened the scoring after only seven minutes with an outstanding goal; two good touches from Bhakard saw him launch a tremendous shot from twenty yards out that flew into the net, giving Welton keeper, Tom Drewitt, no chance.

Just after the twenty-minute mark, Lebeq were awarded a penalty, much to the dismay of the Welton faithful, who had made the trip. Up stepped Brown, who converted the spot-kick to make it two for the hosts. Minutes later, Lebeq got a third when a free kick on the edge of the area was taken by Brown, who lifted the ball over the Welton wall and into yards of space at Drewitt’s right-hand post and into the net.

The second half started as badly as the first for Welton, a long ball out of the back by Lebeq saw it beat the Welton defence and fall to the lively Bhakard, who raced through, one-on-one with Drewitt, who had tried to close him down, only for the striker to calmly slot the ball past the keeper and into the Welton net to make it four for Lebeq.

Welton were trying to find some rhythm and managed to pull a goal back in the 68th minute when Dylan Hatt was bundled over in the area and the referee had no hesitation in awarding Welton the spot-kick, which was converted by Harry Barter.

Welton Reserves’ home game against Hutton was a victim of the incessant rain, as the West Clewes pitch was deemed unplayable.

This Saturday, 21st December, Welton entertain Hengrove Athletic at West Clewes in the last game before Christmas. Kick-off at 3 p.m. and supporters and spectators are encouraged to wear Christmas hats and festive decorations at the game to make it a fun, party atmosphere.

Then it is on to Boxing Day for the Coalfield Classico against our friends, Radstock Town. This year, Radstock are the hosts, and the kick off is at 1 p.m. It will be great to see you all there!
