Overall a fair result, as both sides battled for the winner but had to settle for a replay at Basingstoke on Tuesday.

Paulton started quickly, and Liam Monelle’s pass to Ryan Gay nearly saw a chance at the near post.

Camen Harvey’s cross from the left was headed narrowly over by Joe Hillard, and then Gay had a goal disallowed on eighteen minutes. Against the run of play, The Dragons scored with a 25-yard drive from George Bennett, set up by Zidane Akers.

Paulton levelled on 35 minutes, as Mitch Tippins and Ben Withey laid back to Harvey, who hit a piledriver, giving Basingstoke stopper, Colm McAdden, no chance.

The visitors pressed early in the second period, as Akers’ shot was blocked by Jamie Laird, and the Rovers’ defender was on hand to clear from Sam Smart.

Monelle shot over, and was involved in a move with Gay and Evans, with McAdden holding, before the keeper pulled off a double save from Gay and then Withey.

Young Rovers sub, Jordan Lovibond, broke on the right and lobbed his volley wide. Star Man of the Match: Camen Harvey, Paulton Rovers.
